the City
Mount
Abu
is the only hill station in Rajasthan, situated very close to the
Rajasthan-Gujarat
border, in the Aravali hills. The mountain forms a
distinct rocky plateau 22km long by 9 km wide. It is built arround a lake
and surrounded by hills and is the
most popular summer resort. Its cool
climate, lovely lakes, and breathtaking beautiful Jain temples attracts
tourists on a large scale. There are also interesting treks & picnic spots
with awe inspiring scenic beauty
History
It was the capital of the
Chauhan kingdom of Rajasthan and was the summer
resort of the Rajput kings of this region. But during British rule it
became the favorite summer destination of the British. It was also used as
the sanatorium for the troops.

Must See in Mount Abu
Dilwara Temples : The Dilwara
Jain Temples were built between 11th and 13th century AD and are dediceted to the Jain Tirthankaras. These beautifully carved temples are
a fine example of temple architecture. The Vimal Vasahi Temple is the
oldest of these temples and is dedicated to the first Tirthankara.
Gaumukh Temple : Dedicated to
Lord Rama, this small temple is situated 4 kms south of
Mount Abu, and derived its name from a natural spring flowing through
the mouth of a marble cow.

Attractions :
Nakki Lake : This
artificial lake is located in the heart of the town and is surrounded by
scenic hills, beautiful parks and is a must visit place. Near the lake
there is a
14th century Raghunath
temple. Boating facility is also
available in this lake.
Trevor's Tank :
This tank
is 5 km from the town & was named after the
British engineer who
constructed it. It is popular for bird watching with various species of
birds like pigeons, peacocks and partridges.
Guru Shikhar : This is
the highest peak on the Mount Abu which provides an excellent view of
the whole town. A small shaivite shrine and a
temple of Dattatreya
situated on the top of the hill are the two important points to visit.

Achalgarh : A short distance away, a fort built in the
14th
century by Rana Kumbha of Mewar. Also houses Jain temples,
Achaleswar
Mahadev Temple (1412 A.D.) and the
Kantinath Temple (1513 A.D.)

Festivals in Mount Abu
The Summer Festival is
held every year in the
month of June. This three day festival consists of
folk & classical music, folk dances, sporting events such as
boat races in
the Nakki lake and also the dazzling fire work give a delightful
experience to the traveller.
Best Month to Visit
April to June and October to November are the best time
to visit the town.

Air : The
nearest airport is
Maharana Pratap Airport, Dabok, Udaipur
which
is 207 km away.
Rail : The nearest railway
station is Abu Road 29 km from the town which connects Mumbai, Delhi,
Ajmer, Jaipur & Ahmedabad.
Road :
The town is well
connected to all the major towns in northern and western India with a
excellent road network.
