Why does my Jeep air filter smell like fuel?

I replaced the air filter, and roughly 2 oil changes later, it smelled of fuel. It wasn't real bad, but I could surely smell it, why ?

Depending on the year you could have an evap canister that is clogged or bad. It's then allowing gasoline to get into the vacuum system and from there it can be drawn into the air box contaminating the air filter.
