What are the differences between Discover Cards and Visa/Master Cards?

At door ways of most shop in united state, I see only the Visa/Master cards and I rarely see discover accepting signs.

So is it correct that if we can use discover credit cards at only a few selected places? and cannot use outside of US?

The transaction fee they charge merchants is slightly higher than Visa / MasterCard. It is a good card; it is excepted in most places in the U.S.
